Former assistant police chief sentenced Former Aurora assistant police chief Dennis Lewis was credited with 294 days toward the prison sentence handed down by Judge Jon Cleary Thursday, Sept. 2, in Dearborn Superior Court No. 1.
As part of a plea agreement, the Dillsboro resident pleaded guilty in July to one count of child solicitation, a Class C felony, in connection with sexual Internet chat with a person Lewis believed to be a 13-year-old girl. Four other counts were dropped.

McDowell leader for all 50 laps LAWRENCEBURG - Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., led all 50 laps of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature race Friday at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
In a furious late-race charge, Brian Birkhofer, of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jimmy Owens,of Newport, Tenn., closed to within striking distance of McDowell, but could not overtake the leader.
The win netted $10,000 for McDowell in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event.

Obituaries

Elmer Pfluger Elmer Carl Pfluger, 79, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, peacefully from the arms of his loving family to the loving arms of His Lord.
He was born Wednesday, July 29, 1931, in Aurora, Ind., son of the late Elmer and Sarah Pfluger.
He is survived by his son, Randall (wife Jamie) Pfluger, 1313 Edgewood Ct, Carrollton, TX 75007; two grandchildren, Heather Pfluger, and Brandon Pfluger; brother, Charles (wife Elinor) Pfluger; sister, Mary Colen, and several nieces and nephews.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He learned the electrical trade while supporting army logistics in France, and spent over 20 years as an electrician for Seagram's before retiring in 1992. He graduated from Aurora High School and spent the remainder of his life in Lawrenceburg. He loved working with numbers, being with his family, and watching after his grandchildren. He was a tower of strength that will never be forgotten and his strong sense of duty and honor will forever be with us. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Greendale, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at 1p.m. with the Rev. David Patterson officiating.
Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora, Ind.
