LAWRENCEBURG - Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., led all 50 laps of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature race Friday at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
In a furious late-race charge, Brian Birkhofer, of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jimmy Owens,of Newport, Tenn., closed to within striking distance of McDowell, but could not overtake the leader.
The win netted $10,000 for McDowell in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event.

INDIANAPOLIS - There’s little margin for error when you’re playing a speed team on its home (artificial) turf.
As Lawrenceburg’s football Tigers found out again Friday, there’s even less room for goof-ups when that team is perennial state title contender, like (Class 2A) No. 4 Cardinal Ritter.

AURORA - South Dearborn’s Karlie Stewart earned low medalist honors in tri-meet action Thursday at Dearborn County Club.
Back on the home links after a rough first week concluded at the Greensburg Invitational Aug. 6, SD’s Lady Linkster Knights and Lawrenceburg both showed improvement despite playing under bright sunshine, 94-degree heat and excessively humid conditions.
